Abstract

A metal cutting tool is formed by calcining alumina, grinding finely, adding up to 10 per cent, preferably 1 1/2 per cent, by weight of powdered aluminium, chromium, or magnesium before or after calcining, shaping, and firing under oxidizing-conditions to a temperature of 1,550 - 1,750 DEG C., preferably 1,650 DEG C., and for a period of 7 - 10 hours. The mixture may be heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to a temperature of 750 DEG C. and reground before shaping and final firing.
