Abstract

626,329. Machines for extruding reinforced articles. SNELGROVE, E. C. Oct. 15, 1946, No. 30616. [Class 87 (ii)] An extrusion machine comprises means 17, 19, Figs. 2, 3, for retaining a reinforcing member 24 in the path of the material, e.g. cement, concrete, clay, being extruded and for releasing the member to enable it to be carried forward embedded in the material. Longitudinal reinforcing members 4 may also be provided. In a machine for extruding posts, beams, &c., an extrusion chamber 1 is provided with four extrusion screws 2 mounted on hollow shafts 3 which provide guideways for the members 4. Two vertical feed screws 6, Fig. 1, supply the material to the chamber 1. Reinforcing chambers 11, 12 are hinged at 9, 10 respectively, each chamber being used alternately. The chamber 11 as shown in Figs. 2, 3, terminates in a nozzle 14, and plungers 19 and notched rotatable rings 17 serve to hold reinforcing loops 24 and to release them in turn to be embedded in the material. The members 24 may be released by automatic means coupled to the device 5, Fig. 1, for feeding the longitudinal reinforcing members 4, the mechanism operating the screws 2, and the drive for a band conveyer 26 for receiving the extruded article. A number of nozzles 14 may be provided each supplied by a separate screw or group of screws. Some or all of the reinforcing members 4 may be fed through apertures in the walls of the chamber 1 instead of through the screws 2. The machine may also be used for providing a metal tube or pipe with a casing of cement or concrete reinforced with circumferential loops.
