Abstract

625,555. Extracting juice. COTTEE, E. N. Aug. 9, 1947, No. 22175. [Class 28(ii)] A method of extracting the juice and pulp from fruit such as passion fruit comprises the separation and expelling of the juice and pulp from the rind by means of compressed air. The air is injected beneath the rind surface by way of minute orifices 24 in a piercer, Fig. 5, and the juice and pulp are expelled through the large bores and openings 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31. Means, which may be automatic, are provided for bringing the fruit to the processing point and also for disposing of the pulp juice and rind. For example, in Fig. 8, reciprocating rods 35, 36, 21, moving in fixed sequence, allow fruit 38 to pass from supply chamber 39 to chamber 32, whence, after processing, the rind drops away through opening 44.
