Abstract
623,786. Electric resistance heaters. MOREY, G. H. March 13,1947, No. 6997. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1940. [Class 39(iii)] A heater comprises an inner layer 1 of flexible fireproof material shaped to conform closely to the exterior of the glass. or like vessel to be heated and a resistance wire 3 fixed in spaced non-shorting manner to the layer 1, which is supported on a packing 4 of resilient heat-insulating material in a rigid outer casing 2. The layer 1 is of woven glass cloth shaped by cutting, stretching or tucking and has an annular lip 5 held by a ring 8 on a lip 6 on the metal or plastic casing 2, which may have a boss 11 drilled to take a rod 12 of a clamp stand. The packing 4 comprises glass fibres, glass wool, slag wool or comminuted magnesia. The resistance may be sewn by glass fibres or woven into the fabric, or a double fabric may be used. The casing may be of asbestos board with a flat base. Two or more units may be added to heat the upper parts of an article.
