Abstract
622,921. Uniting by fusion. BUFFET, J. M. A., and TROTTIER, J. E. Oct. 3, 1945, No. 25704. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1944. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXV] Electrical and geometrical stability of an alternating current welding arc operating in a reducing atmosphere and between two electrodes spaced from the work are obtained by the use of alternating current of frequency between 600 and 1200 cycles per second. When using a hydrogen atmosphere this may include also other active or neutral gases. The electrodes may be bare or coated. The system is applicable to hand-operated welding apparatus or to continuously or intermittently operating automatic apparatus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a system in which the arc is fed with low-frequency current of rectangular waveform. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
