Abstract
622,668. Tapping nuts. AKTIEBOLAGET MANUS. Aug. 27, 1946, No. 25644. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] A nut-tapping machine is characterised in that the vertical tap spindle 8 is rotated by a rope drive connecting a pulley 19 on the shaft of a motor 7 rigidly mounted on the frame of the machine to two clutches on the tap spindle which are adapted for rotation in opposite directions and the driving elements 15, 16, of which are provided with, or shaped as, rope pulleys. The rope drive comprises, in addition to the pulley 19, which is adapted for different gear ratios, guide rollers 20, 21, and 22, the shafts of which are mounted in a common bearing block 23, slidably mounted on a fixed rod 24. The clutches are thrown into and out of gear by means of a pivoted lever 12 which controls a sleeve 30 slidably mounted on the tap spindle, the sleeve being adapted to operate each separate clutch through a set of arc-shaped cam levers 44 mounted on radial pins 45 carried by a hub 34 rigidly connected to the tap spindle, the free ends of the levers 44 bearing against flanges 33 of the sleeve 30 so as to transmit pressure in a suitably increased degree from the sleeve 30 to the laminated discs 37 of the clutches. The rope drive and clutches are enclosed in a casing comprising a fixed intermediate member 4 to which end members 5, 6 are detachably connected.
