Abstract

622,199. Valve generating circuits. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. July 9, 1945, No. 17518. Convention date, July 8, 1944. [Class 40 (vi)] A sawtooth generator comprises an intermittent discharge device connected across a condenser in series with a charging resistor, the linear sweep voltage output being produced across the common cathode resistance of a pair of discharge tubes connected so as to maintain a constant potential difference across a portion of the charging resistor to provide a constant charging current. In the Figure, discharge valve 12 is cut off intermittently by negative pulses applied to point 25, and condenser 11 then charges through resistance 15. The output of a unity gain amplifier comprising valves 28 and 29 is connected to a fixed point 16 on resistance 15 so as to maintain a constant potential difference across the lower part of resistance 15, and thus provide a constant charging current for condenser 11 to linearise the sawtooth waveform. The output voltage is taken from across the cathode resistance 31. A modification is described in which discharge valve 12 is replaced by a self-running multivibrator arrangement, the cathode of valve 29 is connected through an additional resistance to an adjustable tapping on resistance 31 to provide a gain control. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 547,949.
