Abstract
622,168. Aircraft controls. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU SUD-EST. March 5, 1947, No. 6247. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1946. [Class 4] The elevator and aileron controls are arranged in the form of arm-rests for the pilot, each arm carrying a handle and being so articulated that the pilot's hands reproduce the movements made with a normal control system in the form of a control column carrying a hand wheel. As shown in Fig. 2, the control members form chair arms, the fore-arm portions 6 each carrying a handle 5 and being connected to a pair of links 9, 10 which are interconnected by a link 12. To operate the elevators, the handles 5 are moved forwardly or rearwardly together, thereby rotating the links 9, 10 about their upper pivotal points 11, 13 and rotating a cross-shaft 14, Fig. 4, which is geared to an operating shaft 14b. For operation of the ailerons the handles are moved vertically in opposite directions, the links 9 remaining stationary so that the links 10, 12 rotate differential pinions 17, 18 geared to the operating shaft 20. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement comprising arm-rests 25, 26 which are rotated in the same direction about a cross-shaft 35 to operate the elevator control member 45, and in opposite directions to move the aileron control member 46 through differential linkages 29, 39, 43 and 30, 40, 42. In the further modification shown in Fig. 6, the aileron control member 46 is in the form of a rotary shaft operated through vertical links 29, 30 and a cross-shaft 49. The controls may be adapted for operation by a pilot lying in the prone position, Fig. 7 (not shown). Specification 609,412 is referred to.
