Abstract

620,816. Sewing. ALDERMAN, P., and COSTELLO, M. J. Jan. 27, 1947, Nos. 2509 and 12810. [Class 112] In a needle-threader the movement of the needle moves a pivoted member to pass a loop of thread through the needle eye and the loop is thereafter held so that removal of the needle completes the threading operation. As the needle is inserted into a channel 15 it is twisted into an aligned position by springs and as it advances it engages a groove 21 in the pivoted member 18 which is pressed by a spring 23. Further advance of the needle causes a hook 22 on the member to project through the needle eye. When the member reaches the position shown in Fig. 5 the thread 27 is inserted into a slot 13 and the needle is removed the hook pulling a loop of thread through the eye. The threader comprises two complementary parts having a slot extending from the channel to the periphery to allow removal of the device from the thread when it is attached to a garment. In a modification (Figs. 9 - 13, not shown) the hook is replaced by a forked bar and the thread is inserted first. On insertion of the needle the'bar pushes a loop of thread through the eye and during withdrawal of the needle the loop is held by a spring attached to the body of the threader.
