620,075. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING. CO. Jan. 3, 1947, No. 204. Convention date, July 6, 1946. [Class 112] Lock-stitching by eyed needles and rotary hooks. The "opener" of a vertical-axis rotary hook which makes two revolutions per stitch is actuated by connections from the hook shaft but only once per stitch. In the arrangement described, the opener 72 is adjustably carried by a member 64 which is pivoted on a pin 65 and connected by a link 63 to a crank-pin 62 on a vertical shaft 58, so that it oscillates as the shaft rotates ; the deadcentre effect of the crank causes the opener to pause in its operative position. The shaft 58 is driven by a gear 59 thereon meshing with the spiral gear 49 (not shown) on the hook shaft through which the latter is driven by a spiral gear 50 on the bed-shaft 26 of the machine. The hook shaft and opener shaft are carried in a saddle 43 adjustably mounted on a bed-shaft bearing 31 and a front seating (not shown). Lubricating reservoirs. The gear wheels 50, 49 (not shown), and 59, which connect the bed-shaft 26, vertical rotary hook shaft (not shown) and opener shaft 58, are enclosed in a common oil chamber.
