Abstract

619,745. Drying granular materials. DUNFORD & ELLIOTT (SHEFFIELD), Ltd., and HEATHCOTE, C. W. Dec. 24, 1946, No. 37804. [Class 34(ii)] The peripheral wall of a rotary drum drier is formed by a series of inwardly curved plates 3 in overlapping spaced relation. Granular material, such as coffee beans, is introduced through the space between two plates at the top of the apparatus and, during drying, occupies a position indicated in the Figure due to the clockwise direction of rotation of the drum indicated by the arrow. A radiant heater 19 is mounted at the centre of the drum on a stationary shaft and is inclined as shown to suit the angle of rest of the material. After drying the material is discharged from the drum by reversing the direction of rotation so that the material slides down the curved plates 3 into a receptacle placed beneath the drum.
