Abstract
619,559. Making electric lamp &c. caps. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Nov. 14, 1946, No. 33862. Convention date, May 14, 1943. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Cylindrical projecting parts on the cap of an electric incandescent lamp or discharge tube, such as pins for securing the cap in a holder, are formed out of the material of the cap by spinning. The cap 16 is supported on a holder 5, horizontally movable on guides 12 and a guide pin 10 which is clamped by a stud 9 in a central member 7. A shaping tool 17, comprising a holder 18 and a roller 20, is rotatable with respect to the pin 10 and movable horizontally and vertically, and engages the metal of the cap 16 and moves around the pin 10, either by rotation of the tool 17 or rotation of the workholder and cap. During the rotation the supporting member 5 is slowly pushed to the left with respect to the member 7, the pin 10 thereby gradually projecting from the member 5 and supporting the projection 21 during its formation.
