Abstract
619,428. Rolling screw-threads. AUTO MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and LEEDHAM, B. Dec. 10, 1946, No. 36404. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXV] In forming a screwthread, adjacent a shoulder, on a rod of a diameter substantially equal to the effective diameter of the thread, the shoulder, comprising at least one annular ridge or at least one thread of a different hand or shape from that being rolled, is formed simultaneously with the thread-rolling operation by parts secured to the rolls or platens. A platen consists of two parts clamped together, one of which, 22, forms the required screw thread 24 and the other 25, a series of annular ridges 27, on the workpiece 33. A form of roll for forming the thread comprises a part for rolling the screw thread and a part for simultaneously rolling a screw thread of opposite hand, Fig. 4 (not shown).
