Abstract

618,504. Circular looms; driving; let-off and take-up motions; shuttles. COMPTOIR LINIER. Dec. 17, 1945, No 34190. Convention date. June 13. '[Classes 142(i),.142(ii) and 142(iii)] A circular loom comprising at least one shuttle which is driven by rotary electromagnetic means arranged beneath the lower of the two sheets of warp threads between which the shuttle travels is characterized in that the shuttle is mounted on two pairs of wheels 56, 57, which run on horizontal tracks 7<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>1</SP>, the shuttle comprising two retaining rollers 59<SP>2</SP>, which bear against the inner face of a circular track so as to counteract the effect of centrifugal force. The central pillar 3 of the loom carries a motor-driven rotary sleeve 10 formed with radial arms 17 each of which carries an electromagnet 18 having each of its pole pieces directed towards a magnetic mass carried at each end of the non-magnetic shuttle body. The pirn prior to its insertion in the shuttle is housed in a metal box which is made in two elongated parts fitting one within the other, the box having internal ribs or projections which support the pirn externally to prevent it from collapsing while it is being unwound. The heddles 32 are actuated simultaneously by means of separate levers 44 which are oscillated vertically under the control of a common central cam 48. The loom is stopped not only by interrupting the supply of current to the driving motor 14 but also by the automatic operation of an electromagnetic brake 70. The warp threads 29 are fed from four rows of spools 22 each row being driven by means of a roller 23 against which bears a spring-pressed roller 24. The rollers 23 are driven in pairs from a shaft 16. The rows of spools may be replaced by warp beams. The fabric is received at the top of the loom by cylinders 64, 65, the cylinder 64 being driven from the bottom of the loom, and an endless conveyer 69 moves the fabric to where it is to be used. The loom is of such dimensions that the warp spools or beams, the heddles and shuttles, and the means for collecting and conveying the fabric are arranged respectively on three different floors of a factory.
