618,373. Railway and tramway vehicles. HUNZIKER, R. Oct. 29, 1946, No. 32097. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1945. [Class 103 (iii) A sanding device comprises a tube 4 which may be metal or fabric secured by clips 5 to the inside of the mudguard 1. The tube 4 is filled with sand and at one end is provided with a screw-cap and at the lower end with a frictiontight plug 7 inserted in the bore of the tube 4. A wad of guncotton is inserted in the closed end of the tube so that when it is fired the gas pressure generated discharges the plug 7 and the contents of the tube. The contact 15 in the firing circuit may be closed by a pushbutton from the driver's seat whilst the contact 14 may be wired in parallel with the stop light so that it is closed only when the stop light is on.
