Abstract
A solution of which the freezing point is nearly the same as that of the pure solvent is concentrated by adding it gradually to a chilled secondary solution soluble or miscible with the first solution and of lower freezing point, in such quantity as to cause p the formation of ice, cooling the mixture, and separating the concentrated liquid remaining. The desired ingredients may be precipitated as solids. The solvents may be the same in each solution, the second solution having a freezing point depressant, e.g. sugar. Alcohol may be added in the case of extracts soluble in weak alcohol and insoluble in concentrated alcohol, heat being extracted until the alcohol is concentrated sufficiently to cause precipitation.
