Abstract

617,581. Keps for supporting lift cages. TAYLOR, E. Oct. 8, 1946, No. 29954. [Class 78 (iii)] A kep arm 2 supporting a mine cage 1 is withdrawn to release the cage by a rectilinear motion down an inclined plane 16, the kep arm being supported to prevent a tilting movement releasing the cage by an inclined slot 17 and having a tail shaped to permit tilting movement to permit an ascending cage to pass. The surfaces 16, 17 may be formed in the housing 15 of bearings for a shaft 4 operated by a lever and quadrant and carrying an arm 3 having a roller 6 engaging in a slot 7 in the kep arm 2 to move it between its operative and inoperative positions. Four kep arms are preferably employed to support the cage, two controlled by each of two shafts, and the shafts are connected by cranks and an adjustable link to turn together so that all the kep arms are operated by a single lever.
