Abstract

Pattern or delustring effects are obtained on textile fabrics by applying a coating comprising a mixture of mono or dimethylol urea, dimethylol urea dimethyl ether and melamine and thereafter heating. The coating composition may contain a pigment and, if desired, urea which acts as a softening agent. The process is particularly suitable for screen printing. In examples, the following compositions are printed on to satin fabric and baked at 150-175 DEG C.: (1) monomethylol urea, dimethylol urea dimethyl ether, resin-forming melamine derivative, titanium dioxide, glycerine and gum tragacanth; (2) dimethylol urea, dimethylol urea dimethyl ether, resin-forming melamine, urea, titanium dioxide, glycerine and gum tragacanth.
