Abstract

615,822. Gas burners. GREAVES, A. H., and SHORT, R. V. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23816. [Class 75 (i)] A gas burner comprises a gas jet 2, Fig. 9, of frustoconical shape located and forming an annular air inlet 8 within the tapered lower end of a first mixing tube 6, the upper end of which is externally frusto-conical and located to form a second annular air inlet 14 within the lower end of a second mixing tube 9 which is flared at both ends to form a restriction 10, and the parts are adjustable relatively to one another and are assembled so that (a) the width of the annular air inlet 8 is not less than one-sixth and not more than two-thirds of the diameter of the boring 3 of the tube 6, (b) the diameter of the jet 2 is not less than one-sixth and not more than one half of the diameter of the boring 3, (c) the diameter of the restriction 10 is not less than one and a quarter times and not greater than twice the diameter of the boring 3, (d) the boring 3 has a length at least three times its diameter, (e) the distance between the jet orifice 15 and the extremity 16 of the boring 3 is not less than one-eighth and not greater than threequarters the diameter of the boring, (f) the distance between the extremity 17 of the boring 3 and the restriction 10 is less than one and a half times the diameter of the restriction 10, and (g) the angle subtended in a diametrical plane by the flared wall 18 of the tube 9 is less than ten degrees and greater than one degree. Further preferred dimensions of the burner are also described. The tube 9 is longitudinally adjustable by screwthreading in the casting 19 in which the tube 6 and the jet 2 are mounted ; and in an alternative construction both mixing tubes 6, 9 are longitudinally adjustable in the casting 19 and are screwed in set positions by locking screws. In a further alternative construction one or more further mixing tubes similar to the mixing tube 6 may be provided. Specification 558,086 is referred to.
