613,879. Hose or tube couplings. AEROCOUPLING CORPORATION. June 12, 1946, No. 17619. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1945. [Class 99 (i)] A coupling for tubing comprises a socket member and a nipple, the former having internal annular ridges which decrease in diameter towards the end into which the tube is inserted, and the nipple being attached to the other end of the socket and having a tapered portion which forms an angle with the axis of the coupling greater than that between the axis and a line drawn through the peaks of the ribs and which co-operates with the ridges to provide a progressive clamping action on the tube wall. Fig. 2 shows the coupling as applied to a hose 10 having part of its outer layer cut away; an annular recess 23 is provided in the socket 12 adjacent the ridges 25 for receiving the flow of the material of the hose, and an annular knob 34 is positioned at the end of the tapered part 321 of the nipple 14 which enters the hose. In Fig. 6, the coupling is applied to a hard-walled tube 53, the nipple 57 being arranged to be forced into the tube, when the latter is in position in the socket 50, until a pin 61 can be inserted into the two members to lock them together.
