Abstract

612,795. Rope railways. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. June 4, 1946, No. 16968. [Class 104 (ii)] In a rope-railway system with vehicles 10 propelled by endless continuously-moving belts 13, each vehicle carries a member 14 pressed into frictional engagement with the belts, member 14 being raised when the vehicle meets an obstruction. The member 14 consists of a pad carried by pivoted arms 16, 17, the former pivoted to the vehicle and the latter having its outer end sliding in a bracket 20 on the vehicle. The joint pivot is connected to a sliding bar 21 having a spring 23 and a buffer 22 so that when the buffer meets an obstruction such as a station stop or the immediately preceding vehicle, the pivot is pressed rearwards and the pad 14 raised from the belt 13. Automatic braking means may be provided to prevent rearward movement of the vehicle.
