Abstract

612,480. Glass furnaces. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHEMIQUES DE ST.- GOBAIN, CHAUNY, & CIREY. May 24, 1946, No. 15880. Convention date, May 24, 1945. [Class 51(ii)] A tank furnace for the continuous manufacture of glass has two adjacent zones 4, 5 separated by a baffle 7, 8 provided with a slit 9 extending throughout the width of the tank and spaced both from the bottom of the tank and the top of the glass. The slit 9, preferably corresponding to an isotherm within the liquid may be rectangular or curved in shape and allows liquid to pass from the melting zone 4 to the working zone 5. In another form of the apparatus (not shown), the working zone 5 widens .to form .a semicircular trough.
