Abstract

610,912. Thermally - actuated valves. DENISOFF, A. C. April 9, 1946, No. 10858. [Class 135] [Also in Group XIII] A thermostatically-controlled mixing valve, e.g. for hot and cold water, comprises a mixing chamber housing a ported tubular valve seat 3 having liquid inlets at its ends and divided into two chambers by a central partition 8, and a ported sleeve valve 11 rotatable on the seat by means responsive to the temperature of the mixed liquids. The means comprise a metal bellows 30 having a movable end 31 for rotating the sleeve valve through the rod 34 and having its other end sealed to the head 32 of a tubular member 23 which is carried by a sleeve 20 housing a larger diameter metal bellows 40 with a movable head 41 and sealed to the tubular member at its other end. The enclosures between the bellows 40 and the outside of the tubular member, and the bellows 30 and the inside of the tubular member are connected by the aperture 47 and filled with a non-volatile liquid. When the liquid expands, the head 41. moves upwards until stopped by the spring- loaded plunger 44, the position of which is adjusted by the knob 45 to the desired temperature of the mixture, whereat the bellows 30 is compressed. A length of capillary tube 60 is connected to the enclosure.
