[Class 59] In a crusher of the kind wherein the material is crushed between a stationary ring 31 and a gyratory head 36, a floating ring 43 is interposed to provide two upwardly enlarging crushing spaces. The ring normally tends to move with the head and most of the crushing is done on the outside of the ring. The face 44 of the ring may be conical, but as shown in Fig. 3, it is concave, the face 45 being convex. When the crusher is running empty or lightly, the ring 43 has a tendency to cock and jam the mill. To avoid this, the securing nut 40 has radial lugs 56 overhanging the ring, and additionally or alternatively lugs 57 may be provided on the mantle 39 of the head 36. Cocking is minimized if the material is fed into the inner crushing space and allowed to overflow into the outer crushing space. To effect this, the feed hopper is provided with a ledge 54 overlying the outer space. In a modification, anti-cocking lugs project in wardly from the floating ring and bear on the mantle 39. In the construction shown in Fig. 7, the floating ring 64 is joined by radial arms 65 to a collar 63 which fits loosely in an annular channel 62 in the head.
