Abstract

609,576. Valve super-regenerative circuits. FERRANTI, Ltd., and WOOD, H. March 16, 1946, No. 8251. [Class 40 (v)] The invention relates to automatic constant sensitivity control arrangements for receivers of the type comprising a super-regenerative amplifier, a following amplifier and an intervening detector. The control voltage is applied to the grid of the super-regenerative amplifier and is derived from the anode current of the second amplifier, the mean value of which varies inversely with the random voltage fluctuations present in the receiver. In the Figure, valve 7 is a quench oscillator, valve 1 a super-regenerative amplifier and valve 61 a leaky grid detector combining the functions of detector and amplifier. The voltage across the cathode resistor 65 of the latter valve is applied through series connected resistor and inductor 43, 11 to the grid of the super-regenerative amplifier. Thus, when the sensitivity of the receiver increases an increase noise voltage is applied to the detector, the decrease in mean anode current which results, reduces the voltage across the cathode resistor causing an increase in the bias of the super-regenerative amplifier and thus a reduction of receiver sensitivity.
