Abstract

609,565. Drying paper webs. SPOONER. W. W. March 16, 1946, No. 8213. [Class 34(i)] Web material is passed over the surface of a heated rotary cylinder disposed within a partially enshrouded hood, the vapour so formed is compressed with or without imparting further heat thereto, and then used to impart heat to the web to drive off further moisture. In a preferred example paper web 1 passes over rotary drying cylinder 2 enclosed by hood 3. Evaporated moisture collecting in hood 3 is drawn off by pipe 4, compressed in compressor 5 whence it is passed to the interior of cylinder 2 by pipe 6. Hood 3 preferably includes a pressure chamber 13 with nozzles 14 conveying steam at high pressure to the web. This steam is led away by pipe 12 to chamber 15 where it is compressed by fan 16, and, if desired, heat imparted to it at 17, and conveyed back to chamber by pipe 18.
