Abstract

608,724. Hair-waving appliances. BOUDOU, J. L. R. Feb. 28, 1946, No. 6269. [Class 131] A mandrel for use in hair waving comprises a body portion and a member received by the mandrel for increasing the cross-sectional area of the hair-receiving part and removable after the winding operation is completed. As shown in Fig. 2 the mandrel 1 is waisted at 2 and has enlarged ends 3 one of which is grooved at 6 and the other pierced by a hole 7 so that the rod 5 may be pushed through to lie close to the surface of the waist as a packing piece while the hair 9 is being wound. The rod 5 is mounted in a handle 10 having a neck 12 in which is a screw-threaded plug 11 with a central passage 15 of greater diameter than the rod so that the rod is rotatable and axially slidable in the bore 13 but is held captive within the handle by being bent over at 16. The device may be applied to root winding curlers and in modifications the mandrel may have a slot or hole at each end, may be perforated to allow chemical " fixing solution to be applied more freely to the hair and may be in two interlocking parts.
