Abstract
608,345. Oars; rowlocks. MITCHELL, F. G. March 20, 1946, No. 5338. [Class 114] The shaft 12 of an oar 10 forms, together with a tie 22, a rowlock member 26 and an arm 24, a pivotal framework connecting the shaft to the blade 18 so that the blade moves substantially parallel to itself when operated, the spring 40 maintaining tension in the tie 22. One construction of the rowlock member 26 is shown in Fig. 3, the rowlock being pivotal about the axis 71 of the bar 70. Alternatively the shaft 12 may be fixed, with no lateral play to the rowlock member which in itself may be of stirrup shape and combined with an outrigger structure.
