607,966. Piston packings. SCHLOSSER, H. Oct. 23, 1945, No. 27850. Convention date, July 31, 1939. [Class 122 (i)] In a light metal piston having a band 7 of hard, less expansible, metal secured to the body 6 thereof in diametricallyopposed zones situated in the median plane of the piston passing through the gudgeon pin, the band is anchored to the body by sectional projections 8 on the body or band engaging recesses or slots in the band or body respectively. The band is oval when cold with its major axis practically equal to the bore of the cylinder and is deformed to circular shape by the light metal body under heating, spaces 9 being provided in the body about the plane of the major axis of the band to permit expansion of the body alone.
