Abstract

607,824. Gas turbine plant. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and HUYTON, A. Feb. 12, 1946, No. 4367. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XII] In a combustion chamber for a gas turbine or other prime movers comprising a pair of concentric metal shells the inner of which forms the combustion chamber and the two forming between them an annular air duct, the inner shell is supported from the outer by a sheet metal ring having a flat outer peripheral portion adapted to occupy a plane transverse the axis of the combustion chamber and having formed integrally with its inner periphery a plurality of supports for the inner shell. In the combustion chamber shown, Fig. 1, the inner shell a is supported from the outer shell b by a L- shaped member d gripped between a pair of flanges e on the outer shell. The cylindrical part of the ring d has three equidistantly spaced slits f formed in it and the metal between the slits and the edge of the ring is pressed inwardly to form substantially straight bridge pieces g which grip the inner shell a. In a modification, Fig. 3, the ring d<1> is formed with three T-shaped pieces d?. The stem d<3> of each T-piece is bent laterally to a U-form and the head d<4> is bent to a shallow V-form, the free ends of which are attached as by welding to the inner shell a. The Provisional Specification describes a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 in which the bridge pieces g are formed from the metal between two parallel slits f, in the cylindrical part of the ring d.
