[Class 83 (iv)] Altering molecular structure; metal - sheet feeds.-Metal strip feeding means, e.g. for a stamping-machine, employs two coil cradles designed to permit a coil to be received without shock, and comprising carrying members supporting pairs of roller-carrying shafts and mounted for rocking movement about the driving shafts for the rollers by means of supporting tubes receiving the driving shafts over part of their length. The strip is fed alternately from the coils on the two cradles, the coil on one cradle being renewed during feeding from the other. The strip passes round and between a series of flexing rolls to break up the grain and finally passes to the machine through feed and straightening rolls, as described in Specification 607,276. When a new coil is to be introduced, fluid pressure is admitted to a cylinder 101, Fig. 3, to raise a piston with a head 107 concave to suit the coil. This raises rocking members 111 with flanges 114, 115, engaging recesses in the head 107 and side frame 106. Supporting rollers 95 for the coil are mounted in frames 96, rocking about supporting tubes 81a that enclose driving- shafts 80 and are supported in pedestals 89. The members 111 have elongated holes to pass the tubes 81a. As the coil rolls over the members 111, the frames 88, 96 rock to provide a level passage to the heads 107 where the coil is retained by the concavity. The piston is then lowered and the coil comes to rest on the rollers 95, the members 111 being now clear of the head 107 and resting clear of the coil on the roller axles 94. End discs 70 for the coils are adjusted to the width thereof by a pinion 76, on a motordriven shaft, driving a cross-shaft 79a chain geared at 74 to nuts on screws 71 attached to the discs. A clutch 77 permits individual adjustment of one disc. The rollers 95 are driven through gears 93 from pinions 92 on the shafts 80, geared at 81 to a pinion 82 driven by a hydraulic motor.
