604,668. Metal structural elements; reinforced concrete. GREEN, D. H. Jan. 12. 1945. No. 1056. [Classes 20(ii) and 20(iv)] A metal structural element in the form of a mattress, particularly for reinforced concrete constructions for making floors, walls, &c., is built up of zig-zag strip members disposed as in Fig. 5, which is a partplan view in which the strips appear edgewise. The strip members are constructed in the manner of lattice girders, in which a zig-zag bent rod C lies between two straight parallel rods A and is welded to them, as shown in elevation in Fig. 1. Having been bent into zig-zag formation (the bends in the case of the lattice being on points where an edge rod is welded to the bent rod) the strips, e.g. 2, 3 in Fig. 5, are placed side by side with the bends opposite one another and in contact, where they are united by spot welding as at 7. Adjoining zig-zag members need not be separately made, but may be formed by bending the same element back upon itself. The mattress may be finished off along its other edge by welding thereto a strip 8 to form a border which may be flat metal strip or a metal lattice.
