Abstract
602,898. Shearing. SOUDURE ELECTRIQUE AUTOGENE, SOC. ANON. Sept. 24, 1945, No. 24759. Convention date, April 4, 1940. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIV] Mechanism for obtaining and controlling a reciprocating movement of a member, such as the blade of a shearing-machine, from a continuously rotating member, comprises a disc 2 with guides 5 secured to each side of it for carrying a free rolling member 4, and a pivoted arm 9 attached to the member 11 to be reciprocated and projecting into the roller runway formed by the rotating guides 5. The roller 4 is maintained in inoperative position as shown by one of arms 18 secured to a star-wheel 27 for controlling the operation of the mechanism. On the roller being released by operation of the wheel 27 it is carried around with the disc 2 and guides 5 and passes between the disc 2 and the pivoted arm 9 to effect a reciprocating movement of the member 11. It is then carried further round with the disc to be held by the next arm of the star-wheel until the next operation of member 11 is required. A braking device 34 is provided in the path of the roller to check its momentum before coming to rest in its inoperative position. The member 11 is attached to the cutter 37 of a shearing-machine for automatically cutting off lengths from a wire strip 14. The wire is fed through a cutting-die 38 by rollers 47 and passes through a guide 39 until it abuts against an adjustable rod 40. This operates through levers 44, 45 and 32 the star-wheel 27 which releases the roller 4 to effect a cutting operation of the blade 37, the roller being then checked by the next arm of the star-wheel until the latter is again operated. A bottom portion 48 of the guide 39 is adapted to be actuated with the blade 37 by a rod 49 from the arm 9 so as to release the length of wire cut off on each cutting-stroke. This bottom portion is returned by a spring 61 in a damping cylinder 58.
