Abstract

602,889. Wire netting. WOLLASTON, H. J. BUCHANAN-. July 25, 1945, No. 18992. [Class 45] In wire netting for fences, &c. of the type comprising a plurality of parallel wires 1-8, each wire having one or more bights extending at right angles thereto and each bight taking over the neighbouring bight in line therewith, the bights, or sets of bights, are passed alternately over and under the neighbouring wire as shown in Fig 1. The tips of the bights may be bent alternately up and down to enable the built-up netting to lie flat. Through all the bights of a length of netting is passed a stiff wire, rod, or strip 9, which, when the wires 1-8 are drawn apart to extend the length to its maximum, has its ends suitably fixed to the bights of the end wires. The fixing may be effected by twisting, as shown, or by applying an attachment member, such as a tube or T-piece, to the wire end. A cross-pin holds the tube in place, or alternatively the cross-pin may pass directly through a hole in the wire 9 when this is sufficiently thick. Linking pieces of wire may be provided for joining two lengths of netting together, or this may be effected by spiral coils of wire slipped over a supporting post. The netting may have its interstices filled with rushes, straw, felt, paper, wood, sheet metal, &c. to form a non-foraminous surface, and may be used for silos, dust bins, fruit tree covering, fencing, gates, roofing, &c. Specifications 435,202 and 529,773, [Group XXII], are referred to.
