Abstract

602,839. Adjustable eccentrics. HAYWARD, D. C. Nov. 15, 1945, No. 30646. [Class 122 (i)] [Also in Group XIX] In an eccentric mechanism of the type which comprises means for adjusting the throw of the eccentric to an infinite number of positions between specified limits, the mechanism including a rotary shaft 5, a sleeve 6b on the shaft and rotatable with it and provided with a boss 6 which is disposed obliquely of the axis about which the shaft rotates, and an annulus 7 slidably mounted on the boss but so as to rotate therewith, the sleeve 6b has mounted on its outer end a pulley 19 adapted to be displaced longitudinally of the shaft 5 thereby displacing the boss 6 to alter the eccentricity of the annulus 7. The pulley is operated by a lever 20 pivoted at 21 and having an eye 23 movable along a stud 24 and.fixable in any desired position on the stud by means of nuts 25. The eccentric mechanism is connected through a flexible coupling 11 of the type described in Specification 602,840, [Group XXXII], to a test piece 13 which is held at its upper end in such a manner that continued rotation of the shaft 5 will apply a fluctuating load to the test piece.
