Abstract

601,988. Hair-waving appliances. GRAHAM, V. S. May 23, 1945, No. 12851. [Class 131] A hair-waving device comprises a pair of nested arcuate combs 10, 11 spaced by teeth 17, 18. As shown the comb 10 has sharp ridges 13 and shallow depressions 14 while the comb 11 has shallow ridges 15 and sharp depressions 16. The combs are spaced by teeth 17 on the depressions of comb 10 and teeth 18 on the ridges of comb 11. The hair is clamped between the combs which are then moved longitudinally relatively to one another to impart a horizontal wave. The clamping means comprises at one end pins 25 with heads 26 on comb 10 adapted to be forced through slots 24 in comb 11 thus providing a releasable pivot and at the other end a similar pin and slot connection 28, 27. Ventilation holes 30, 21 are provided, the latter being formed by pressing the teeth 17, 18 out of the comb, and a straight extension at the forward edge of comb 10 ensures that a portion of the hair is free immediately adjacent the head.
