Abstract

Vulcanised deposited neoprene latex articles containing a soluble zinc salt are rendered more resistant to ageing by subjecting them to the action of gaseous ammonia. In examples a 50 per cent neoprene latex containing zinc oxide, carbon black, soap, wetting and dispersing agents and antioxidants, was extruded into hydrochloric acid solution and the resulting threads dried, vulcanised, and treated with gaseous ammonia for 18 hours. Thin vulcanised neoprene articles made from the same latex are treated with ammonia for a period of up to two hours.
