601,078. Axially rolling ribbed tubes. CALUMET & HECLA CONSOLIDATED COPPER CO. Oct. 2, 1945, No. 25623. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1944. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Tubing has spaced annular fins rolled thereon integral with the tubing. A helical forming tool A is rotated in contact with the tube B on mandrel C. One end of the tool A cuts into the tube and the shape of the tool varies to squeeze gradually the fins. The tube is moved axially during rotation to generate fins normal to the axis. The helical tool may be formed of split disks on a mandrel or the tool may be made in segments of varying shape.
