Abstract
600,293. Hinges. ALERS, HANKEY, Ltd., H., and SAAIMAN, L. S. Oct. 2, 1945, No. 25571. [Class 65 (ii)] A rising hinge comprises two main parts 14 and 17 connected by helically coiled portions 13 and 16 respectively, of which the upper and lower edges lie in a helical path, the helical portion of one main part being substantially the same in form as that of the other part and the said portions so interengaging that the two main parts cannot be separated laterally. Each helical portion may be formed integral with a leaf by shaping the latter to form inclined tongues, and then bending or coiling such tongues around a cylindrical centre piece. A helical portion may also be formed as a continuous helix from sheet strip or from wire of any suitable cross-section, e.g. semicircular, and attached to a leaf by welding or brazing. Projections 15 and recesses 18 may be provided in the edges of the helical portions to hold a door &c. in an open position. The said edges may be formed with a reduced slope at their ends to enable a door to close gently.
