Abstract
599,944. Carpet-sweepers. KEMP, E. E., and WATTS, P. D. Sept. 25, 1945, No. 24837. [Class 138 (i)] In a carpet-sweeper or like device of the type comprising ground-wheels driving a rotatable brush 3, a statically charged surface is provided situated in the dust stream from the brush so as to attract and collect the free particles of dust not deposited direct from the brush in the usual collecting-trays 6, the charged surface being arranged so that the dust accumulated thereon falls by gravity into the trays. The Figure shows a roller 1 made of vulcanite, methyl methacrylate or other insulating material adapted to be charged by friction, driven by a belt 5 from the brush and charged by means of pads 4. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the roller 1 is driven and charged by the bristles of the brush, and in a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the roller is replaced by a curved plate engaged by the bristles.
