Abstract

599,836. Cutting extruded bars of explosive material. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. July 30, 1945, No. 19498. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1943. [Class 87 (ii)] A bar of explosive material is extruded from a nozzle 3 and impinges on a sheet of paper 1 lying on a shelf 2. The paper is fed by means of a driven roller 4, and its forward movement is aided by the friction between the bar and the paper. The paper is drawn from a supply spool 8 by way of a metering roller 10. This roller carries a cam 12 which, twice every revolution thereof, depresses a rod 16 and allows a single revolution friction clutch 22 to drive a shaft 26. The shaft 26, through a Geneva movement 27 drives a shaft 28 carrying a cutter wheel 30 having radial cutter elements 29. These elements cut pieces off the bar, and the pieces are wrapped in the paper by a device 38. The paper may not be used as a wrapping, in which case it may be replaced by other sheet material. The cutter wheel may have no rim.
