Abstract
599,355. Indicating-apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., DALY, C. T., and FLACK, W. G. Sept. 17, 1946, No. 23932. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A device for indicating the setting of a variable element of an electrical instrument comprises a graduated film 2 passing from a supply reel 3 over a sprocket wheel 1 to a take-up reel 4, the sprocket wheel being mechanically connected to the variable element, and optical means 11 for projecting a line image upon the film to provide an index. The variable element may be set through a spindle fixed in the core 9 of the sprocket wheel and the film is kept taut by a spiral spring mechanism connecting the .reel 4 with a gear wheel co-operating through an idler wheel 5 with a gear wheel fixed to the reel 3. The optical means 11 project the index through a space between side faces 7 of the sprocket wheel on to the back of the film at a point 12, preferably between the last pair of teeth 6 engaged by the film either toward the reel 3 or 4. The film may have a matt rear surface and the graduations be clear lines on a black ground. To facilitate reading, lamps 14, 15 may illuminate the film in a colour, e.g. green and the device 11 may throw an image of contracting colour, e.g. red.
