598,458. Seat springing. DESSONNAZ, G. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22776. Convention date, May 26. [Class 52(i)] [Also in Group XXXI] The spring suspension of seats comprises at least one torsion bar. The seat frame 8, Fig. 2, is carried by two pairs of levers 10, 11 mounted on torsion bars 13, 15 arranged in the checks of a support 12. Each torsion bar is anchored in a side check and rotatably mounted in the other check. As shown the lever 11 is fixed at the rotatable end of the torsion bar 13 while the lever 10 is rotatably mounted on the anchored end of the torsion bar 15. A similar pair of levers is arranged at the opposite ends of the torsion bars and all the levers are rotatably mounted in projections 9 arranged on the seat frame 8. A similar arrangement for saddles of a motor-cycle is described, (Group XXXI). Fig. 11 shows an arrangement of one torsion bar 46 rotatably mounted at each end in a cheek 48 of a support and carrying levers 47 fixed at each end of the torsion bar. In this case the torsion bar is anchored at its centre and as shown adjustment of its torsion to bear increased load is obtained by adjustment of its anchorage by means of the screw mechanism 50-53. To obtain guidance for the seat idle parallel links 49 are provided. The seats may be provided with hinged backs, hinged seats proper and hinged arm rests and in some cases the back may be connected to the seats by quadrants which permit the back to be folded into alignment with the seat to provide a berth. The seats are especially arranged for vehicles.
