[Class 141] A corset of the type having closure flaps covering an inner vest-portion, has transverse tapes extending across the closure flaps which are attached to the vest portion and form lacereceiving loops at the free edges of the closure flaps. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the vest portion consists of two sections 3, the free edges having bindings 4 and interengaging fastener components 6 and being stiffened by stays 5 which terminate above the lower edge of the corset. Strips 7 extend along the junction of the vest sections 3 and closure flaps 2. The transverse tapes 9 extend from the bindings 4 and through eyelets 8 in the strips 7 and form loops 10 for the laces 11, the lower ends of which are secured in the free edges of the closure portions. These edges are reinforced by stays terminating above the lower ends of the closure portions which are provided with eyelets 12 to receive additional laces. In a modification, the tapes extend only across the closure flaps, their ends being secured to the seam joining the closure flaps to the vest sections. Each strip 7 is replaced by a short eyeletted tab through which a lace, secured to the edge binding of the appropriate vest section, passes. Wide transverse elastic strips may be provided in the vest sections to give additional support. In another modification, the upper tapes on each side extend across the closure flap and the two lowest tapes are secured in the free edge thereof, either together or separately, pass through spaced eyelets in a tab secured to the seam joining the vest section and the closure flap, and are secured at spaced intervals within the binding of the free edge of the vest section. The lace is secured in this binding and either passes through both eyelets or through a separate lower eyelet. In these constructions, the edge binding of each vest section projects downwardly and a further construction is described wherein an abdominal band extends diagonally upward from this binding. In a further construction, the vest portion is formed in one piece with a vertical central reinforcement to which the laces are secured
