597,228. Pumps for liquids. CHAMBER LAIN, A. G. Dec. 8, 1944, No. 24638. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] For transmitting power hydraulically, a manuallyoperated reciprocating pump 10, in which parallel high- and low-pressure pistons 24, 23, Fig. 2, operate simultaneously until a predetermined pressure is reached, after which the low-pressure piston operates idly and only the high-pressure piston continues to deliver, is provided with a ram 13 working in a cylinder 11 encircled by a concentric oil reservoir 12 from which oil is pumped into the cylinder by both pistons on operation of the working lever 19 to advance the ram 13 by oil pressure until the predetermined pressure is built up and causes the opening of an adjustably loaded spring-pressed valve 32 to conduct the oil discharged by the low-pressure cylinder back to the oil reservoir.
