[Class 5 (i)] An animal trap comprises a single loop of metal,through which an animal may pass, and a spring arm secured to the loop and adapted to be bent back into a position adjacent to the top of the loop so that, on the tripping of a trigger by an animal, the arm will fly across the plane of the loop to crush the animal. In the form shown, the trap comprises a gunmetal loop a provided with a ground-engaging spike b. Located in the upper part of the loop is a powerful spring c, one of the ends c<SP>1</SP> of which is secured to the loop by a clamping screw d, the other end being elongated to form an arm c<SP>3</SP> which is normally retained in the position shown by a pivoted cam e. An animal in passing through the loop will depress a trigger g attached to a lever f and thus release the arm c3, the animal then being trapped between the arm and the side of the loop. In a modification, the spring and loop are formed integrally from a single length of spring wire.
