Abstract
596,160. Packing. STROUD, E. G., and VERNON, W. H. J. July 23, 1945, No. 18824. [Class 94 (i)] In the packing of metal articles corrosion of the metal is prevented by enclosing the metal in a package or confined space containing volatile esters of aromatic acids such as n-propyl benzoate, iso-butyl benzoate, ethyl phenylacetate, ethyl dihydrocinnamate, and other cinnamates. The ester may be applied to shavings, or to cotton-wool or felt in a closed container, or may be used to impregnate paper applied hermetically as a wrapping. If the package is not completely hermetically sealed a greater amount of the ester is used. The invention may be applied to prevent corrosion of the inside of containers.
