Abstract
595,563. Friction-grip fastenings ; capping or coupling ropes. CARGAL, G., and BRITISH JEFFREY-DIAMOND. Ltd. April 9, 1945, No. 8784. [Classes 44 and 109] [Also in Group XXX] A coupling or anchorage device for ropes or cables comprises two members laid one upon the other and adapted to receive the bend of a rope between their opposed faces, said faces having rope engaging parts and inter-engaging slides which permit endwise separation of the two members; the rope engaging parts comprising a wedge extending endwise along one of said faces and a channel extending endwise along the other to receive the wedge, the arrangement being such that upon sliding the two members apart the wedge is exposed to enable the rope to be laid around its periphery and the coupling or anchorage effected by sliding the members together and applying tension to the standing part of the rope so that the rope becomes wedged between the periphery of the wedge and the opposed sides of the channel. In the embodiment shown, the device comprises members 1, 2 with inter-engaging sliding parts 6, 7, the member 2 being formed with a wedge portion 8 to receive a loop formed at the end of the cable and which engages in a channel 5.
