Abstract

594,939. Gas turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WELSH, R. J. May 31, 1943, No. 8652. [Classes 110 (iii) and 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII] Gas generated in two or more internalcombustion engine - driven compressors, exhausted from the engine, supplied solely by the compressor, or a mixture of the two, is fed to an " auxiliary " consumer before being used in a main " consumer. The gas may pass to an auxiliary turbine on its way to a common manifold which supplies the main consumers which n may also be gas turbines. The auxiliary turbine may drive a supercharger for raising the pressure of air entering the compresssor cylinder. One gas generator of the free-piston type may supply a number of auxiliary consumers. The dischargers from gas generators 1 flow through the delivery conduits 2 to auxiliary turbines 3, which extract some energy before discharging the gas through conduits 4 to the common manifold 5 and main turbine 6. Turbines 3 drive superchargers 7, which have air inlets 8.
