Abstract
Freely-divided titanium dioxide is rendered water-repellent by exposing it to the vapours of one or more organo silicon halides, and then mixed with a synthetic rubber, e.g., polystyrene or a synthetic resin, e.g., an alkyd resin to produce dielectric material. Preferably titanium dioxide, calcined at 1,350 DEG C., is treated with 1-10 per cent. by weight of methyl silicon halides and mixed with 10-60 per cent. by weight of binder. An azeotropic mixture of silicon tetrachloride and trimethyl chlorosilane is preferred but alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, and alkaryl derivatives may be used.
